Smr will provide all nutrition and hydration for the rides. (if you have something in particular that you like you may want to bring it)

Members are responsible for the cost of their lodging but Smr has negotiated a rate at the Budget Inn for $50 a night, which is extremely inexpensive for St George this time of year.(If you are interested in this room rate you should respond quickly)

Members are also responsible for their food outside of riding events.

Agenda:

Rides:

Friday, February 3rd: The ride will be approx. 40 miles and will start at 3:15 sharp.

Sunday, February 05th: The third ride on Sunday will not be an official Smr ride, but if you want to ride, the ride will be approx 40 miles and start at 9am. We will depart Sunday to

return home.

We will have different paces within each ride.

Dinners:

Smr will coordinate a dinner on Friday and Saturday night at 6:30 pm. All members are encouraged to attend to get to know other club members.

This is a great opportunity to get some great winter training and to get to know other members of the Simply Mac club.

Please answer the following questions and send your response to Guy Robertson (events chairman) at gridaho@gmail.com

Will you be coming with us to St George? (If not, you can stop now and hope the snow is better at Targhee by then)

Do you need to come back Saturday night?

Do you want us to help you find transportation to and from St George?

Are you willing to drive? If so, how many spots do you have available?

Do you need a reservation at the Budget Inn? (if yes continue, if not you are done)

Will you be staying in your own room, or would you like a roommate?

Do you have a roommate or do you want us to pair you up?

Dear Eagle Rock Cycling Club Members:

As we enter a new year our club will be undergoing some exciting and significant changes. These changes involve becoming part of Threshold Sports which is currently known as Simply Mac Racing Cycling Club and Race Team. Our reason for becoming part of SMR is to provide more cycling opportunities for our members without losing our local identity.

SMR is a larger, more experienced club that has achieved what our small local club has tried to achieve. SMR is based in Odgen, Utah, and has local clubs in Salt Lake, Provo, and Logan. They are excited to help us here in Idaho Falls grow our club so that it better meets the needs of the recreational cyclist, racing cyclist, triathlete, and mountain biker.

What follows are some of the ways that becoming part of SMR will help us achieve our club goals:

While some may be concerned that we will lose local control and comradery, we will continue to have local officers of the club and will be able to make most club decisions locally. What we gain is experience and support for local cyclists, triathletes, and mountain bikers. We also continue to solicit local sponsors. We have presented what we are doing and where the club is going to several old and new local sponsors who have agreed to significantly increase the amount of their sponsorship. Simply Mac has been and will be for the 2012 season the premier sponsor for the recreational cycling and racing club. Once the local sponsors are confirmed and in place we will make the names of those sponsors known.

Using a structure suggested by SMR our local weekly group rides with be more organized and better supported. We will start group rides for newer riders with a short instruction session on road cycling skills. More experienced riders will take turns leading no drop group rides for slower or less experienced riders.

With the guidance of SMR we will have local Criterium races each week for four or five weeks and then join with the Annual Allen Butler Criterium for our finale. We will also have one or two fully supported Century rides (with lesser mile options) for club members at no cost followed by a picnic for club members and their families.

Starting this cycling season we will have Triathlon and Mountain Bike divisions. SMR clubs in Utah already have these divisions. Current and new local club members who have experience as triathletes and mountain bikers are excited to bring those riders into the club.

The benefits of past club membership will not only remain in place but will be enhanced by our association with SMR. Many of the problems our small local club experienced with such things as clothing orders will be almost eliminated. (We are still working with Louis Garneau to resolve last season’s clothing order problems).

We invite you to check the SMR website at simplymacracing.org. SMR has an iphone app and an android app (in development) that makes information about club events readily available for club members. Our local calendar will be accessible from the apps.

We are excited about our new relationship with the Simply Mac Racing Cycling Club and Race Team. We hope you are too. As this relationship develops we will be providing more information as to how you can be a part of a club whose primary interest is to increase opportunities and provide a better cycling experience for all cyclists in our community.

There are some new and exciting changes coming for ERC in 2012 like an actual race team and other things. We’ll be posting up something soon on site to let you know what’s going on. In the meantime here’s a note from out new Race Director Nathan Starnes -

Hey All,

Hope all of you have been taking advantage of this great weather and trying to get outside. The 2012 Race Season is upon us! Along with some of the changes in the club is also a race specific team. Individuals who are part of the race team have the ability to recieve reimbursement for races, preference in club participation events to recieve free clothing, and other racer specific perks, like fully supported training camps. One of the requirements is that you agree to participate in at least 5 USAC cycling events. Plenty of opportunities exist nearby and in Utah so getting a group together to defray some travel costs is likely. Additionally, we have been given the opportunity to buy five Specialized Bikes for individuals who are committed to racing at cost plus 10%, which is a fantastic deal.

I need to complile a list of those individuals who want to be part of the race team. Also, if you intend to be part of the race team and are interested in a bike, please let me know as well. Please email me if you are interested or have questions. nathanstarnes@gmail.com
